Broadway DNA November Recap!
So much happened this month, and it’s only continuing to snowball, is everyone else feeling as crazed as I am?? I am hoping the New Year brings back the regular weekly schedule for this newsletter about all things global theatre— but for now, thanks for subscribing, and here’s some highlights you may have missed around the world:
Thank you to everyone who attended our industry reading of SMJ’s new horror comedy “SWAY” at NYC’s Open Jar Studios on November 17. For more information on the play and how to stay involved in its development, shoot us a reply here, or catch it next up in a workshop production with NYC’s The Fled Collective in May.

Tonight in NYC, join the winners of Korea’s Daegu International Musical Festival’s (DIMF) Musical star program. They were selected from a nationwide televised series in Korea from over 1,000 applicants and will be doing songs from some Broadway and West End as well as featuring songs from some new Korean musicals. See you there!!
KOREA
New MV for Shownote’s currently running “West Side Story” through February
EMK announces 2023 world premiere of their 6th Original Musical “The Rose of Versailles,” based on the manga of the same name by Riyoko Ikeda
The Korean premiere of Lee Hall’s “Shakespeare in Love” has revealed its casting ahead of a January opening
A new Broadway-aimed adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” is in development, led by Korean producer Chunsoo Shin of OD Company.
SPAIN
“Malinche,” a new musical by Nacho Cano exploring Mexico and Spain’s relationship and the birth of miscegenation through epic staging and music premiered in Madrid on September 15, 2022.
The musical "Los Chicos del Coro," based on the 2004 French musical film “The Chorus” and produced by KAK GROUP, T2R and PENTATION SHOWS, has opened running through April 2023
I can’t stop thinking about this giant puppet in Spain’s “The Never-Ending Story” (“La historia interminable”) based on the1984 fantasy film.
EUROPE
GERMANY: Don’t talk to me unless it’s about this one production shot from Staatstheater Kassel’s “Next to Normal.”
DENMARK: I am obsessed with this new trailer ahead of the Danish premiere of “Jersey Boys” in October 2023, produced by LION MUSICALS in collaboration with LIVE NATION.
IRELAND: The current UK tour of “Beauty & the Beast” made its first stop in Dublin
AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND
& JULIET announced the Australian cast ahead of a replica production opening February 26
“Hamilton” first international tour to begin in New Zealand in May 2023— I love when international theatre news is sporadic like a little scavenger hunt… the official website has no official route or announcement yet, but this English-language intl tour company is presumed to come off of the Australian run before going to Asia. Australia’s Michael Cassel Group just calls that an “international tour.”
In 2019, producers also hinted to French news site AFP a desire for a stop in Paris as part of a mythical future European tour, as well as a Spanish-language production in Mexico.
If you read my last blog post, you know I’m interested heavily in these exciting global connotations and executions.
